In this amazingly timely story about what the wealthy do when Wall Street lays an egg, the author of Gilding Lily once again delivers a witty and insightful treatment of today’s woman, as she explores the sacrifices they make, the bargains they strike, the rules they follow, and what happens when it all starts to fall apart. Who could have guessed that Wall Street would go south just as Marcy Emerson and her husband moved east? Down to earth Marcy relocated from Chicago to New York when her husband was offered a big time job as a hedge fund manager. She gives up her own job—after all, hedge fund wives don’t work! And while at first it’s fun to shop all day and party all night, Marcy quickly learns that lif… More >> Hedge Fund Wives

  1. Marcy and her husband, John Emerson are packing up and leaving their hom in the Windy city of Chicago and heading for New York City. John has been offered a really good job for a hedge fund company called Zenith Capital.

Now Marcy is being invited to some of the biggest parties including a baby shower for one of the other hedge fund wives. Caroline is the happy mother to be but don’t go congratulating her as she is having the baby by surrogate. While attending the shower, Marcy meets Jillian Lovern Tischman, another one of the wives. She tells Marcy that there are different catgories of hedge fund wives.

There are the Accidentals, the ones who didn’t plan on becoming hedge fnd wives but did when their hudbands got jobs in the market of hedge funds. Then there are the Westminsters, the ones who were born into this type of lifestyle. There is the Stephanie Seymours, the bitches of the bunch. They treat everyone including their husbands like dirt and are allowed to get away with it. We also have the Former Secretary, the ones who of course are the secretaries for the men who work for hedge funds and later become hedge fund wives. Watch out for their claws as they will do everything they can to hold onto their men. Then you have the Socialites, the name explains them all. The last two types of wives are the Workaholics and the Breeders. The Breeders are the stay at home mommies but don’t think just because they pop out kids they don’t demand respect. They own all the latest baby items from all the famous baby designers.

Marcy can’t stand any of the women. She is used to working and can’t wrap her brain around justifying spending Three thousand dollars per plate for dinner. As time passes, Marcy get used to her new lifestyle and can’t imagine going back to her old life. Marcy just may have to when John dumps her for another hedge fund wife.

Hedge Fund Wives is Tatiana Boncompagni’s second novel. I loved Mrs. Boncompagni’s first novel Gilding Lily about a group of socialities who strive for fame and fortune. Now these types of books who not appeal to my taste but Tatiana writes these books so well that you won’t have to worry about the characters coming off as vamp, airless, square characters. No in fact the characters in these books are fun to read about. Marcy was my favorite. Even though she had lots of money, she still wanted to work and never took advantage of anyone. I don’t know how hedge fund husbands act but if they act like their wives then John has his part down pat. Hedge Fund Wives is another winner for Titiana Boncompagni. I can’t wait to read her next novel. Rating: 4 / 5

  2. I am a huge fan of Tatiana Boncompagni ever since I read her first novel Guilding Lily.

Hedge Fund Wives, while not a sequel to Guilding Lily has taken some of the basic premises that worked so well in the first book and elevated them to an even more entertaining read.

Hedge Fund Wives introduces us to a brand new set of characters, featuring the couple of John and Marcy. John is an up and coming trader in the cut throat world of hedge funds and Marcy finds herself becoming the “hedge fun wife”. Except that Marcy has one foot “in the regular world” and one foot in “that” world. She is thrown into the glamourous and somewhat sinful life of the these rich women with too much money, not enough love from their husbands and definitely too much time on theirs hands. Although Marcy makes some friends, she just never manages to become as clueless or as rude and horrid as these women.

Her husband, John, on the other hand is finding his niche with these people and will become as horrid and insufferable as the rest of them which will make Marcy rethink her whole future with him and without him.

Once again, Boncompagni manages to precisely and deliciously describe the world of the decadent rich. There are lots and lots of detailed descriptions of various clothing, furniture and baby accessories. There is a funny story about women who have their own coaches for a certain part of the body….and as I was reading, I realized that I completely and thoroughly despised these people. Not because they have money, but rather because they are such mean, tiny and clueless people!!!!!

Yet, at the same time, I felt like I was eating a deliciously forbidden, expensive piece of high sugar chocolate. I kept wanting to read more and find how just how shallow and useless these people really are.

The thread of the story is clearly carried by Marcy who is a somewhat likeable character – but as in Guilding Lilly, Boncompagni manages to give her main character some traits that make her less than perfect. She can be somewhat shallow and I thought, at times a little thoughless with her comments and although I wanted to feel sorry for her, its hard to feel sorry for someone who is so rich. What I did like is that she was a good friend and was not afraid to actually do some work – but let’s face it, she actually ended up being “in the right place at the right time”, many other woman facing her situation – minus the millions of dollars would deserve our respect much more than she did.

I love reading Boncompagni’s books. They are extremely, extremely interesting and she has a way of making you actually hate rich people – yet at the same time, bringing us secretly into their world of over excess – and I loved it.

This is a great, great read!!!! Enjoy! Rating: 4 / 5

  3. Hedge Fund Wives is one of those books you can’t put down once you start reading. The world Tatiana Boncompagni describes is ridiculously exclusive, but I devoured every 14 karat detail. Hedge Fund Wives is the perfect plane or beach read that will take you out of your life and plunk you into a diamond studded world you can hardly believe ever existed (does it exist still?). It’s fun escapist entertainment, which was exactly what I was looking for when I picked it up. If you’re looking for a juicy novel, you won’t be disappointed. Rating: 5 / 5

  4. I have been waiting for weeks for this book to be released, as I loved “Gilding Lily.” I was not disappointed! Ms. Boncompagni provides the insider gossipy tidbits and details that make this genre of chick lit so fun. There’s also a compelling story line and a sympathetic lead character. Ms. Boncompagni has a sense of humor about the world she describes and I laughed out loud many times. Having read both this book and Jill Kargman’s “Ex-Mrs. Hedge Fund,” I would say that this one is funnier, better written, and has more heart. I only wish it were longer!

(I’m not giving 5 stars because I’m trying to be more discriminating in my star system – 5 stars should be reserved for Jane Austen). Rating: 4 / 5

  5. This book was so awesome that I could not put it down! I enjoyed reading about New York society and the interesting lives these people lead. This book draws you in, and you feel like you are right there with the characters.

Tatiana Boncompagni is a talented writer. I also loved her book Gilding Lily. I hope they make a movie out of these two books. I am anxiously awaiting her next book! Rating: 5 / 5
